Selecting a moving company, packing boxes, setting up utilities, changing over your address and phone number . . . so many tasks to complete when heading to a new home. Sometimes, the experience feels downright overwhelming.
Take a deep breath. You can do this! To make the process less chaotic, try these tactics:

Packing up a whole house sounds daunting, but boxing up a single room doesn’t elicit as much fear. Knowing you need to make appointments for service with eight different companies can give you a headache, but committing to calling one a day doesn’t seem so frustrating. By thinking of big tasks as a series of little tasks, work becomes more doable. And as an added bonus, creating these subheads under each main issue helps ensure details aren’t forgotten.
- Create a daily to-do list.
Writing down what you hope to accomplish provides a framework for the day (and it feels highly satisfying to cross things off when done). The best time to make such a list, however, isn’t first thing in the morning. Rather, compose your “tomorrow” agenda at the end of each day when where you’re leaving off is top of mind. Instead of wasting time trying to recall where to start, you can jump right into action.
- Ask for help.
Take your in-laws up on that offer to wrap all the dishes. Let your kids help load the car with the items you plan to donate to Goodwill.
