Tip #1 for Cleaning on the Fly Before a Showing: Sweep clutter into a laundry basket
Keep an empty laundry basket handy, because the first thing to do when you find out people are coming is to declutter all your surfaces. You can put all the “clutter” into the basket and take it with you when you leave. As soon as you get home after the showing, put everything in its place.
Tip #2 for Cleaning on the Fly Before a Showing: Clean the floors
Sweep and vacuum as quickly as you can. Pay attention to the most heavily trafficked rooms first, such as the entryway, the kitchen and the living room. If you still have time, hit the dining room, bedrooms and bathrooms – but if not, trust that what you did yesterday is probably still good enough for a quick home tour.

Tip #3 for Cleaning on the Fly Before a Showing: Wipe down counters and sinks
Go over the countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms with a damp paper towel or cleaning wipe. Make sure to scrub away anything obvious. Run the wipe through the sinks, too, because buyers will look in them.
Tip #4 for Cleaning on the Fly Before a Showing: Fluff the pillows on the sofa
A little fluffing goes a long way. Hit the sofa pillows together to perk them up, then put them in the right spots. If you have a throw hanging over your sofa, drape it nicely and call it a day.

Tip #5 for Cleaning on the Fly Before a Showing: Open the windows
Open all your windows (weather permitting) and let your home air out before the prospective buyers arrive. The fresh breeze will work its way through your house and clear out cooking odors and other smells that you don’t want buyers to catch.
Pro Tip: Turn on all the lights, pull back all the drapes and raise all the blinds. The brighter your house is, the better.
