When you’re selling your home, it’s always a good idea to ask your REALTOR® what kinds of improvements you should make. Your agent is your best resource on what’s hot in home sales in the current market, and they’ll know whether buyers are looking for new appliances, hardwood floors, smart home technology or anything else. And that’s true when it comes to bathroom design improvements, too – but in the meantime, check out these three tips to make your bathrooms more appealing to prospective buyers.
3 Bathroom Design Improvements to Make Your Space More Appealing
First things first: You should always consult with your REALTOR before making any major improvements. Sometimes people want to make improvements that won’t really pay off at the closing table – and that’s the last thing you want, because it’ll impact your profit from the sale of your home. However, these are three bathroom design improvements you should consider – and run by your REALTOR if they sound good to you:
- Expand your storage space
- Install a low-flow toilet
- Redo your mirror

Bathroom Design Improvement #1: Expand Your Storage Space
Storage space is at a premium, and buyers love to see spots to stash towels and toiletries in the bathroom. If there’s any way you can expand the storage space in the bathroom, whether it’s by putting built-in shelves along the wall or putting in a new vanity, you can make a big splash with prospective buyers.

Bathroom Design Improvement #2: Install a Low-Flow Toilet
Low-flow and hidden-tank toilets can add value to your home, and they can be a selling point for buyers (particularly because they help people save money on utilities). Low-flow toilets are made to consume significantly less water than their standard counterparts do – and hidden-tank toilets keep the tank behind the wall, which makes bathrooms appear larger. (The only downside is that if the tank needs work, it can be tough to access.)

Bathroom Design Improvement #3: Redo Your Mirror
If your bathroom still has the original mirror it had when the builder sold it, it may be time for an upgrade. Though the mirror is probably still fine, you can upgrade its look by adding molding around the edges – that can make your space feel more luxurious and modern. If your mirror has seen better days, you can get creative; head to your favorite home improvement store and see what they have for sale.
