When you buy a new home in Midland, one of the first things you’re going to want to do is make it your own – but aside from adding your own wall art, what can you do? Check out this list of luxury upgrades to consider for 2021.
2021’s Five Hottest Home Upgrades: Are You Ready to Make Your New Home Your Own?
Although we’re noting that these are luxury home upgrades, they don’t all come with a luxury price tag (bonus!) – and that means you can make small improvements to your new space without breaking the bank. Check out the five hottest home upgrades for 2021:
- Keyless entry systems
- Wi-Fi extenders
- Tankless water heaters
- Smart thermostats
- Wi-Fi video doorbells
Here’s a closer look at each.
Keyless Entry Systems
Electronic and digital locks are convenient – and they’re so easy to use that they’re almost foolproof. Forget about locking yourself out of the house or having to give someone a key when you go out of town; with a keyless entry system, you can use a code, a fingerprint, or even a wireless signal to unlock the doors and windows in your house. You can even control them with your phone when you’re away. Your options range from simple keypads to specialized personal biometrics (like fingerprints), and you can find great options for under $300. (The ShclageSense™ Smart Deadbolt retails for about $199.)
Wi-Fi Extenders
There’s a good chance that your new home has phone jacks – but do you use a home phone? If you’re like many people, you don’t. In fact, more than half of U.S. households only had wireless phone service in 2018, which means you’re in the majority if you don’t have a landline.
So what can you do with those useless phone jacks?
Remove them and replace them with Wi-Fi extenders. If you don’t need an extender in your home, swap them out with an internet cable outlet so you can put in hard-wired connections, or even turn them into electrical outlets that have built-in charging ports for USB cables. (You’ll probably want to hire an electrician for that, though.)
Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless water heaters are an eco-friendly (and utility bill-friendly) alternative to run-of-the-mill, old-fashioned water heaters. These on-demand water heaters heat your water directly, which means you won’t run out when you’re the last family member to take your shower. They work with a gas burner or electric element, which heats the water only when water is running through it – the heater stays off when there’s no demand for water on your end. You can pick up a great tankless heater at your favorite home improvement store for under $1,000.
Smart Thermostats
In most homes, you have to change your thermostat’s setting throughout the day – and if you leave the house, there’s a good chance you’ll have to ask yourself if you remembered to make the necessary adjustments. That’s not the case with smart thermostats, though; you can set up schedules and even control your air conditioning or heater with your phone. The consensus is solid, too: These smart thermostats are easier on the environment and easier on your wallet. You’ll be able to conserve energy without sliding the dial on your thermostat, even when you’re away from home for extended periods of time.
Wi-Fi Video Doorbells
A Wi-Fi video doorbell is the smart choice for most homes – and that’s because you can see who’s on your front porch before you get anywhere near the door. Choosing a smart doorbell allows you to speak to people on the porch from anywhere, even if you’re not home, and they give you a sneak peek at which packages have arrived. They’re also great for security, because many offer recording capabilities (although some do require a subscription for that service).
